Wednesday, January 16th

Okay gang, here is the homework tonight:  (allow yourself some time!)


  • 1. First, you will need to go to Edmodo and pull off the PACIFIC REGION VIDEO NOTES.
  • 2. Now you will need to view the video on the Pacific Region. Take notes as you go. We will discuss these in class tomorrow.  Be sure to place the notes, titled PACIFIC NOTES into your Unit 1 Geography folder on dropbox. If it asks for a username and password use this: username - bmarkwald, password usm
  • 3. MAP WORK - please follow the directions below for your beginning your map.

•You will use the map you received in class today.
•You need some colored pencils!

Political Geography (labeling states and capitals)
•Please label and identify these states AND their Capital Cities:
  • California,
  • Hawaii,
  • Alaska,
  • Oregon,
  • Washington.
Please shade/color these five states green on map. BUT Don't color this until after completing the Physical Geography below!

Physical Geography (labeling the landforms)
Please label on your maps! (USE THE MAP KEY to see what shapes to use when drawing/labeling)
  • The Mojave Desert - color/shade tan or light brown (make little dots ...... for the desert area)
  • Also, identify where Death Valley is located.
  • Sierra Nevada Mountains - color/shade this area brown
  • Cascade Range - color/shade this area brown
  • Coastal Range - color/shade brown (make sure you get it all - the length of the west coast)
  • Columbia and Snake rivers - color/shade blue (draw a line in blue for the rivers using a BLUE pen)
  • The Pacific Ocean - color/shade blue
  • Bering Strait - color/shade blue  (hint: near the Bering Sea)
  • Bering Sea - color/shade blue
  • Puget (pronounced peeewww-jet)Sound - color/shade blue (somewhere in the state of Washington)
  • Yukon River - color/shade blue (Blue pen/sharpie)
  • Identify Mt. McKinley (circe a mountain in the Alaska range)
  • Identify the Aleutian Islands
  • Brooks Range - color/shade brown
  • Alaskan Range - color/shade brown
We will have our first quiz on this tomorrow at the end of class. Yes, I do allow unlimited retakes!
