Wednesday, February 8th

For Tomorrow:

Visit the Anasazi sites: Anasazi Virtual Field Trip - Do you think they had a "civilization?"

Scientists/Archaeologists believe that a civilization is comprised of these five major features:
  • Cities as Centers of Trade
  • A Form of Written Record Keeping
  • Specialized jobs
  • An organized form of government and/or religion
  • Advanced tools

As you go on your field trip, try answer the questions below:

The Anasazi – “The Ancient Ones” or “Those Who Came Before”
As you take your virtual tour, take time to examine the pictures you are viewing. Think about
how long ago this was. Think about what it was like to live there.

  • Looking at the FIVE characteristics of a civlization above, use the space below to write examples of each you may see in the virtual tour....
    • A

    • B

    • C

    • D

  • Explain the historical importance of "Newspaper Rock"?

  • The last time we said "Kiva" was during the Money and Banking unit in economics class. Here it is again, but what is it here?

  • Tell the truth, you were scared by the "ghost figure" weren't you?  What do you think its purpose was?

  • According to the tour site, what happened to the Anasazi?

  • What did the "Cliff Dwellers" leave behind as evidence that really puts a human face/print to these old ruins?  (list some!)
