2 things for tonight:

1.Using the Mayflower History website in the right column. Go to the passenger list. Choose any passenger you wish and

a. Tell us a little bit about them
b. Find out what happens to them in life
Share tomorrow on Wednesday.
2.  Jamestown Chronology - copy and paste the parts of the Jamestown story below into a word document. Then, move them around and put them into order of how they happened in history. In other words, the first part should be the first event that happened.

A.  The Jamestown charter is revoked by King James I!  A royal governor is appointed. Thus begins a long tradition of mistrust between the local assemblies and the royally appointed governors in the colonies.
B.  In the spring of 1607 three ships - Godspeed, Susan Constant, and the Discovery - arrive off the coast of North America. They are carrying 105 men and boys bound for Virginia. They eventually move up what they will call the James River.
C.  The Jamestown colony finally finds it's "gold" when a tobacco entrepreneur by the name of John Rolfe brings the plant to the struggling fort.  Tobacco will do well in Jamestown soil and climate. It really does save the colony.
D.  Native attacks, disease, and hunger take their toll on the first colonists at Jamestown. Barely one year into the venture and 2/3 of the people have perished.
E.  The Virginia Company of London is organized as a business venture. Investors have the opportunity to take a risk on a new colony being planned for the vast wilderness of Virginia.
F.  One of the original Captains (of the council of 7) assumes sole leadership for the colony in order for it to survive. His name is John Smith. Although not adored by the colonists, his strength and ability to act in a state of emergency helps the colony survive.
G.  Women and Africans begin to show up in Jamestown in increasing numbers. The women arrive as tobacco order brides, the Africans as indentured servants (at first) then slaves.
H.  In response to the harsh style of a royal governor by the name of Berkeley, Virginia colonists rebel (100 years before the American Revolution) and Jamestown is burned!
I.  The Powhatan indian Opechancanough organizes and carries out a raid against Jamestown. It destroys much and leads to the deaths of hundreds!
J.  Jamestown is replaced as the capital of the Viriginia colony. The House of Burgesses moves 11 miles away to Williamsburg. Soon Jamestown ceases to exist as a town. It then fades into memory and its location is forgotten.
K.  The House of Burgesses begins to meet in Jamestown. So begins a long tradition of people in the colonies having the right to have local assemblies help govern their local affairs.
L.  The colonists hastily construct a fort. The fort is built in the shape of a triangle. They name the place in honor of their king, James I.
M.  The winter of 1609-1610 will be one well-remembered by the Jamestown colonists. Remembered for all of the wrong reasons. It will be known as the "starving time". Out of 500 colonists, less than 100 will remain that next spring.
N.  The Powhatan princess, Matoaka, does marry an englishman. She marries John Rolfe. So much for the Disney story.
